Privacy Policy

Word Bones is a single-player word game. The game itself needs none of your personal information — your progress stays on your device. The only data that leaves the app is what Google needs to show ads (and only if you haven’t removed them), plus your device’s advertising identifier if you choose to allow tracking.

The iOS App

Word Bones is free and supported by occasional full-screen ads shown between games, served by Google AdMob. You can remove ads permanently with a one-time in-app purchase (“Remove Ads”).

When you first play, the app asks for your permission to track using Apple’s App Tracking Transparency. If you allow tracking, Google may use your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) to show you personalized ads and measure their performance, which can involve linking limited data with Google’s advertising partners. If you don’t allow tracking (or dismiss the prompt), ads are non-personalized and your advertising identifier is not used. You can change this choice any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.

Either way, to serve and measure ads Google receives limited data such as your approximate (IP-based) region, ad interactions, a device identifier, and standard ad-request information. Google’s handling of that data is governed by its privacy & terms. If you remove ads, the ad SDK is disabled entirely and no ad data is sent.

Your game data — statistics, Elo rating, word collection, and settings — is stored only on your device using Apple’s standard local storage. It never leaves your phone, and we can’t see it. Deleting the app removes this data. Your “Remove Ads” purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store; we never receive your payment details.

In the EU and UK, a consent prompt (Google’s User Messaging Platform) appears before any ads are shown, as required by GDPR.

The Website

This website (wordbones.vercel.app) uses privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) to count anonymous page views. It does not use cookies to identify you and does not build advertising profiles. Game progress on the website is stored locally in your browser and is never sent to us.

Children’s Privacy

Word Bones is not directed at children under 13, and the game collects no personal information. If you have not allowed tracking, ads are non-personalized and no advertising profile is built.

If this policy ever changes, the updated date above will change with it.
